    Regular daily physical activity or exercise can reduce the risk of developing fatal heart disease. This helps to control the weight and can also reduce one’s chances of developing conditions which can put a strain on the heart. These conditions include diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

    Physical activity also reduces stress which is one of the risk factor of heart attack. Thus, you must include physical activities of 30 minutes along with other activities such as housekeeping, gardening, walking the dog and taking the stairs as they effective help to maintain heart health. In addition, one must limit the intake of fats such as trans-fat and saturated fat as it can increase the risk of developing coronary heart disease.

This diet includes foods low in salt, fat and cholesterol. This diet is also rich in vegetables, fruits, low-fat dairy products and whole grains helps to protect your heart. Including beans and other low-fat food sources of protein can help to reduce the risk of developing heart disease.

    Omega-3 fatty acids are a type of polyunsaturated fats which are helpful to decrease the risk of developing heart attack, lower blood pressure and to protect against the irregular heartbeats. Some good sources of omega-3 fatty acids include mackerel and salmon. They are also present in flaxseed oil, soybean oil, canola oil and walnut oil, but in smaller amounts.

    While following a heart healthy diet, one must also take care of alcohol consumption. Individuals must drink alcohol in moderation only, one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for women. This moderate level of alcohol consumption shows a protective effect on the heart. More than this may become a hazard to your health.

    Maintaining a healthy weight helps in maintaining a healthy heart. Weight gain in adulthood consists mainly of fat instead of growth in muscles.
