Effect Of Trans Fat On The Body:

Intake of Trans fat along with the food results in the increase in the levels of LDL or bad cholesterol in the body. Hence, decreasing the levels of HDL or good cholesterol in the body. It is for the same that the intake of Trans fat increases the risk of heart stroke and heart disease in the body. The regular intake of Trans fat is also related to the higher risk of type 2 diabetes in the body.

Foods Containing Trans Fat In Them:

Some of the food items which contain Trans-fat in them are:

  • Fried foods like doughnuts and French fries
  • Baked items like pie crusts, pastries, pizza dough, biscuits, crackers, cookies, shortenings and stick margarines
  • The presence of trans fat and the amount in which they are added can noticed at the back of the packaged food in Nutrition Facts Panel. In some packaged items its quantity is given as “Partially Hydrogenated Oil”.

Recommended Amount Of Intake Of Trans Fat:

The intake of Trans fat must be there in limited amount only. It is recommended that the amount of Trans fat should be less than 1 percent of the total intake of calories. This means if the intake of 2,00 calories is there then only 20 calories of this must come from trans-fat. It means that the consumption of Trans fat must be less than 20 grams in a day.
