in detail.

Association of High Cholesterol And Eyes:

The presence of high levels of cholesterol in the body results in the deposition of the lipids in the body and it also damages the major vessels and arteries throughout the body which can have significant effect on eyes as well. The high levels of cholesterol result in the development of several conditions in the eyes. Some of them are:

  • Corneal Arcus:

It is the condition in which the deposits of whitish, gray or yellow color develop around the circumference of the cornea due to the high levels of cholesterol. The prevalence of this condition increases with age and most commonly noticed in woman. This condition does not actually affect the vision of the eye and can be treated by reducing the levels of the cholesterol in the body.

  • Retinal Vein Occlusion:

This is the vascular disease of eye which is found mostly in people with high cholesterol levels. Studies have proved that the people suffering from high cholesterol levels have 2.5 fold higher risk of this condition, in which the blood supply to the retinal is blocked resulting in the loss of vision. The deposition of cholesterol on the lines of the vessels blocks the flow of blood in them, thus cutting of the supply of blood to other parts of eye resulting in the complete loss of vision. Medications and some exercises and laser treatments in advance treatments will help in restoring back the lost vision.
