Stress And Cholesterol

Stress is defined as the emotional and physical response which the body develops against the external pressure from the world. Whereas cholesterol is the substance found in the blood and is used for repairing the body cells.

Sometimes due to various factors the levels of cholesterol rises in the blood stream which can result in heart disease and stroke. One of the reasons for the rise in the levels of cholesterol can be due to stress. In the article below we will study the relationship between the stress and cholesterol.

Relationship between Cholesterol and Stress:

As soon as the condition of stress arises the body mechanism prepares it to either face it or to run away from it. In these condition two hormones namely Adrenaline and cortisol are released from the Hypothalamus a gland which is located near the brain. These hormones increase the flow of blood to the brain and act as a stimulus which can release more energy.

Apparently the two hormones adrenalin and cortisol also trigger the production of cholesterol as well. Cortisol hormone produces more sugar which helps the body to get more and instant energy to tackle the situation. If the produced sugar is not utilized by the body then it is converted in fatty acids and cholesterol.

Another theory says that the presence of stress in once life can also result in unhealthy habits of eating and lifestyle which can eventually result in smoking, drinking and a diet which can contribute to higher levels of cholesterol in the body.

According to another theory the arrival of stressful situations again and again the repeatedly unused sugar and converted into fatty acids and triglycerides. These get deposited in the form of fatty acids in the abdomen part. The accumulation of this useless abdominal fat can be huge risk for diabetes and cardiovascular disease in your body.
