Omega 3 Fatty Acids For High Triglycerides

Omega 3 fatty acids or polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are found in fishes like salmon, tuna and other sea food like krill and algae and some other plants and nut oil. Omega 3 fatty acids are very beneficial for the normal growth and development of brain and its proper functioning. They also have the capability to reduce the risk of heart risk as well. It is for the same reason that the doctors recommend to eat fish particularly fatty fishes like lake trout, mackerel, albacore, tuna, and salmon at least 2 times in a week. Types Of Omega 3 Fatty Acids:

There are three types of omega 3 fatty acids. They are:

  • Alpha-linolenic Acid (ALA):

    This is the first type of omega 3 fatty acid which is generally found in vegetative sources like soybean oil, canola oil and flax seed oil. Some other sources in which this fatty acid can be found include dairy products, broccoli, beans, walnuts and green leafy vegetables.

  • Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) And Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA):

    These two are the omega 3 fatty acids which are mostly found in oceans. These acids are found in cold-water fatty fishes. The sources of these fatty acids include fishes like mackerel, salmon, sardines, lake trout, herring and albacore tuna.

Although, the entire above mentioned omega 3 fatty acids are beneficial but research have proved that EPA and DHA are most effective ones. It is for the same reason that the patients with high triglyceride levels in body are advised to take in fishes at least twice in a week.
