Triglycerides are a type of fat or lipid found in the body. This fat is present in the stored form in your body which is used in the form of energy in between the meals. In case, you are taking in more calories as compared to what you take in, then it can result in the condition of Hypertriglyceridemia or high triglyceride levels. Some of the effects of high triglyceride level in body are:

  • The high levels of triglycerides are suppose to contribute in the thickening and hardening of the walls of arteries (atherosclerosis), a process which is responsible for the risk of stroke, heart disease and heart attack.
  • The high levels of triglycerides can also result in obesity and a condition called metabolic syndrome in which too much of fat is deposited around the waist. Then the conditions like, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol levels can also be caused due high levels of triglycerides.
  • Sometimes presence of type 2 diabetes or lower levels of thyroid or some liver or kidney disease can also be associated with the higher levels of triglycerides in the body.
  • Higher levels of triglycerides can also be due to the intake of some medicines like birth control pills, diuretics, steroids or breast cancer drug. These can result in increasing the amount of stored fat in the body.
