Risk Of High Cholesterol

The most common risk factor of high cholesterol is heart disease which can be easily modified as well. But if this condition is left undiagnosed would get deposited on the walls of the arteries by a process called atherosclerosis. This process results in the deposition of plaque on the walls of the arteries which can limit the flow of blood to the major organs and tissues. There are some other circumstances which can also act as the risk factor for high cholesterol content in the body.

Risk Factors Associated With High Cholesterol Level:

Some of the risk factors which are associated with high cholesterol content are:

  • Poor Diet: Intake of unhealthy diet can result in high cholesterol content in your body. This can include saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, food low in fiber etc.
  • Age: You age can play a major role in the high levels of cholesterol content in your body. Actually, as the age of a person grows the levels of cholesterol also increases. Especially women have a greater risk of getting affected as compared to the men of older age.
  • Sedentary Lifestyle: Eating or sitting for long hours can result in high cholesterol levels. Improper exercise plan will add more to this activity.
  • Genetic Problem: If this problem is in your country then you will certainly suffer from this condtion as well.
  • Smoking: Chain smokers are more likely to suffer from this condition as it is capable of reducing the amount of HDL in your body.
  • Gender: Women are more likely to suffer from this condition, especially after menopause. It is because at this stage the levels of estrogen goes down, which are responsible to keep the levels of HDL intact in the body.
  • Presence Of Disease: Some diseases like diabetes, thyroid conditions etc. if present in body can result in high cholesterol content in the body automatically.
