Psyllium is an important natural remedy for lowering cholesterol. It is obtained from the crushed seeds of a shrub called, Plantago psyllium, a native plant of India.

Psyllium is rich in soluble fiber and thus, only a small serving of it is required to help lower cholesterol. It is available in dry seed form, capsule form and husk form. Husk and dry forms can be mixed with water and consumed. Certain food products like baked foods and breakfast cereals contain psyllium as an ingredient. Thus, while going for any of these food products ensure that psyllium is present so that lower cholesterol diet can be taken.


If you are on any drug intake, make sure you take those drugs either 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking psyllium. The reason behind this is psyllium can interfere and reduce the absorption and effectiveness of the drugs.
