Which Foods Contain High Cholesterol and Trans Fats?

People with high cholesterol levels and those who are very much health conscious may be trying to find out a�?which foods are high in cholesterol and trans fats?a�? Too much of cholesterol and trans fat in your body leads to many serious health problems such as coronary heart disease and stroke.

Our bodies itself produce cholesterol which is required by your body. The extra cholesterol we received from the foods we eat gets stored in the arteries, and this leads to blockage of blood vessels and cause heart attacks and strokes. Therefore, we should always maintain a balanced cholesterol levels . So, here are some foods containing high cholesterol and trans fats.

Foods high in cholesterol:

Cholesterol are mostly found in animal based foods. Foods with the highest amounts of cholesterol are liver and eggs. For instance, egg yolk contain 213 mg of cholesterol. Some other foods rich in cholesterol include:

  • All animal products like meat, egg yolk, fish, poultry, and high fat milk products.
  • Prepared and processed foods like pastries, cookies and muffins. These foods are rich in trans fat also.
  • Deep fried foods
  • Whole-milk dairy products
  • Cream and cream cheese
  • Butter
  • Ice cream
  • Certain shellfish like shrimp
  • other meat organs meats like kidney and brain
  • Goose and duck, which contain higher cholesterol than turkey or chicken. These animals skin are rich in cholesterol.

Foods high in Trans fats:

Trans fats are also called harmful fats, which are formed through hydrogenation process. Foods that are prepared through this process can also increase your triglyceride, cholesterol levels and increase the risk of coronary heart disease. Trans fat are mostly found in:

  • Fried foods
  • Fast foods
  • Nondairy creamer
  • Some snack foods such as crackers and chips
  • Baked foods such as pastries, cakes and cookies
  • Shortening

Foods containing trans-fats are sometimes difficult to identify. So, make sure to check the labels of the foods while buying foods. If a container or a food package states that the food is partially hydrogenated or hydrogenated, such foods contain trans fats.
