How to Reduce Triglycerides Naturally

Triglycerides are form of fats that is found in foods. The body needs certain amount of triglycerides. Unhealthy diet and overeating can increase a person’s level. Elevated triglycerides can be detected by routine blood tests. High levels can cause diabetes, heart disease and other cardiovascular problems. Medications can be used by some people to reduce triglycerides. There are many natural ways to reduce their levels and improve overall health.

Reduce Triglycerides Naturally

The following are some of the instructions given to reduce high triglycerides:

  • Stay active

    : Maintain an active lifestyle to reduce your triglyceride levels naturally. Involve yourself in any work or exercise at least 3-4 times a week for about 30 minutes. Exercises may include aerobic/cardio workouts, power walking, playing or jogging.

  • Reduce intake of more food

    : Overeating increases calories and intake of fat and it can result in high triglycerides. Eat lighter meals and reduce daily calorie intake. Consume 2,000 calories per day in order to maintain your healthy weight. Healthy permanent weight loss can occur by reducing calories.

  • Take low-fat diet

    : Select foods which contain low fats. This includes foods which are low in trans fat and saturated fat. They can increase triglycerides level. Eliminate fast food chains and purchase low fat dairy products and lean meats.

  • Select low fat alternatives

    : Choose healthy foods such as high fiber foods, whole grains and foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

  • Eliminate sugar

    : Moderate intake of sugar gives nutrients. But, to reduce triglycerides level naturally, removing sugar temporarily from diet can help. Avoid sugary foods such as cookies, pastries, candy and soda.

  • Limit Alcohol

    : Intake of excess alcohol can lead to high triglycerides in the body. In order to reduce triglycerides naturally, eliminate completely or limit your intake of alcohol from your diet. Limit your drink to one alcoholic beverage a day.

  1. Thanks for a great post! So much cholesterol info articles fail to mention triglycerides. For example, I’ve known that you should reduce your use of alcohol to lower cholesterol. I didn’t know that was more specific to triglycerides. Though I should have realized it since I know high triglyceride comes from excessive calorie intake.
