What Affects Your Cholesterol Levels?
You body produce all the cholesterol required by your body and it is not essential to take additional cholesterol from your diet. The level of your blood cholesterol is not only affected by what foods you consume, but also by how soon your body can dispose the LDL cholesterol levels. There are many ways that affects your cholesterol levels which you can control and things which you cannot control much.
Things you can control:
High intake of cholesterol and saturated fat raise your blood cholesterol levels. Thus, a diet low in cholesterol and saturated fat is the most effective way to lower your cholesterol levels.
Being overweight is one obvious risk factors for coronary heart disease. Being overweight tends to raise LDL cholesterol level and reduce the HDL cholesterol level. Therefore, losing weight will not only raise your HDL cholesterol level, but also lower LDL cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Exercise or physical activity:
Regular exercise or physical activity can lower LDL cholesterol and increase HDL cholesterol levels. Not only lowering your overall cholesterol level, regular physical activity helps you lose weight. Physical activity for at least 30 minutes every day is recommended for everyone to control overweight and control high cholesterol.
Things you cannot control:
Genetics plays a part in controlling blood cholesterol levels. Your genes determine the amount of cholesterol your body makes. So, to some extend your blood cholesterol levels depends on your genes.
Age and gender:
As you get older, your cholesterol levels also increase. Before the menopause age, women usually have lower amount of the total cholesterol than men of their same age. But, after the menopause age, women’s total cholesterol levels tend to increase.
