Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance that is essential for normal body functioning. The body secretes membranes of the cells and hormones through cholesterol. There are two different types of cholesterol namely: High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) or good cholesterol, and Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) or bad cholesterol. The high density lipoprotein (HDL) or good cholesterol helps to prevent the formation of bad cholesterol, that blocks the arteries. The required cholesterol levels should be lower than 200mg/dl of blood. The ratio of good cholesterol should be 60 mg/dl. If a person has lower than 40 mg/dl, he/she is at risk of getting heart diseases.
