Triglyceride Foods to Avoid

Triglycerides are fat deposits present in the body. These fats are responsible for causing heart disease. This article highlights on the triglyceride foods that should be avoided. Saturated fats, high sugar containing food and consumption of alcohol should be avoided.

Triglyceride Foods to Avoid

  • Avoid foods that are rich in ldl(bad cholesterol). These foods include fried, processed, refined and saturated fat containing food. Limit saturated fat to about 7 percent.
  • Cut down consumption of alcohol: Even low consumption of alcohol leads to increased levels of triglycerides. Alcohol generally prevents the breakdown of fat in the body.
  • Trans fats: These are hydrogenated fats present in fried foods, pastries, margarine, cake and crackers. Taking these foods boost the levels of unrequired fat in the body.
  • Starch: Avoid highly concentrated starch foods in the diet. These foods include pizza, potatoes, pasta, popcorn and rice. Choose small quantities of these as they are rich in carbohydrates. Legumes and whole grains are much preferred.
  • Sugar: Sugar containing foods such as jams, jellies, honey, candy, ice cream and desserts should be avoided.
  • Omega 3 fats: Take foods rich in Omega 3 fats. These fats are essential for the body. Fish is the richest source of omega 3 fatty acid.
  • Avoid taking red meat in the diet.
  • Total intake of cholesterol should be limited to 200mg.
  • Coconut oil, whole milk, butter, palm oil, sour cream, palm kernel oil, molasses, colas, fruit drinks, powdered sugar, soft drinks, animal fats, french fries, shrimps, lobsters and cramps are some of the triglyceride foods to avoid

Effects of High Triglycerides

Persons with high triglycerides are prone to

  • Atherosclerosis: In this condition fat deposits on the arteries leads to heart disease.
  • Xanthomonas: It is a condition which results in fat deposition under the skin.

Other diseased conditions such as fatty liver, kidney problems, hypothyroidism, type 2 diabetes and inflammation of pancreas are most common.
