Since obesity is a physical disorder caused by the presence of excess fat in the body, the levels of cholesterol should be kept in check always. This article tries to understand the relationship between cholesterol and obesity.

How Cholesterol and Obesity are Related ?

Obese people mostly suffer from depression. They seek pleasure in unhealthy food habits and sedantary lifestyle. The foods they generally eat are high in carbohydrates. Intake of these foods raises the blood sugar levels in the body. To bring normalcy, the organ pancreas has to produce insulin in excess. This process raises the levels of triglycerides in the blood simultaneously. Along with LDL and HDL, triglycerides form the third type of fats in the body.

Obesity and risk of heart diseases are closely related. The reason for this connection is increased levels of cholesterol. When one of the forms of fat, known as low-density lipoprotein cholesterol level rises in the blood, the pathways of the heart get blocked by cell debris called plaque. Triglycerides are equally harmful to the heart’s health as they clot the blood. HDL or high density lipoprotein is a good cholesterol as it removes the plaque from the arteries and veins of heart, keeping it healthy. Obese people have high levels of LDL and triglycerides and low levels of HDL in their blood.
